In Memory of Joe Strummer: A Benefit for Strummerville
Friday December 20th, the band will be returning to the World Cafe Live at the Queen to perform a very special 5 song set at Tric Town’s In Memory of Joe Strummer: A Benefit for Strummerville. This benefit features 7 great bands all playing songs by Joe Strummer/The Clash/The Mescaleros, with proceeds from the night going to Strummerville, a great non-profit organization that helps struggling musicians around the globe (see the video below for more information).
From Joe Castro: “Joe Strummer has been a massive influence on my life, my global perspective and my music since I first heard London Calling as a teen – so we’re incredibly excited and honored to pay tribute to him by performing these songs (and I hope we do them justice). And in true Strummer fashion, we’ll be mixing things up a bit for this one, dropping our standard garage heavy sound in favor of some of the more dance/groove songs of The Clash’s latter work. And we’re excited to have my old friend Chris McNulty (frontman for The Big Black Night), helping out on keyboards, second guitar, melodica, backing vocals and anything else we can throw at him. Should be a good time.”
Here’s a sneak peel at the set list:
This Is Radio Clash
The Call Up
Ghetto Defendant
Bankrobber
X-Ray Style
Doors are at 7pm – The Lift Up go on first at 8:00 pm sharp (8-8:20pm set time). Don’t miss this one. Advance tickets available here.
